Odin

Odin is the Viking god of wisdom and war. Most known for his stories of sacrifice to acquire more knowledge and wisdom such as the time he sacrificed one of his eyes for a draught of Minmir’s Fountain of Wisdom, or the time Odin hung himself from the world tree Yggdrasil for nine days to learn the secrets of the dead.

I have depicted Odin as a stern old man with a piercing gaze as if he is looking into the viewer’s very soul from atop his thrown Hlidskialf where he can watch over the nine worlds from Norse mythology. He also wields his spear Gungnir that never misses its target, and upon his finger is Draupnir, a magical gold ring symbolising wealth and power that duplicates itself every nine days. Accompanying Odin are his trusty ravens Huginn, and Muninn that would travel about the nine worlds and return to Odin with news and information. The names of these birds mean “thought” and “Memory”.

This highly detailed sculpt is provided with and without supports, it also has an optional choice of shields, one with decoration and one without should more ambitious painters wish to do some free hand designs. The model stands at 14.7cm tall when built, Odin himself is 75mm in scale enabling hobbyists to express the extent of their painting skills.
